Nice picks!  I'm one of those that believe Purgatory Afterglow was EoS's best disc (not Crimson).  Massively diverse and still memorable even 13 years later!  I paid 35 bucks for the Japanese import back in the late 90s, before the EoS catalogue was easier to get ahold of.

My picks:

Fresh Cut:
Fear My Thoughts - Vulcanus: I can't stop listening to this disc!  Well-diversified and even stronger songwriting could put this one over the top of Hell Sweet Hell (which at this point, should have been my #1 of 2005).  2007's first jaw-dropper.

Old Wound:
Iced Earth - The Dark Saga: Just purchased for the 2nd time (money was tight a few years back and I had to sell an unfortunate number of discs that I've since re-purchased...long story) and I had forgotten how great this one is.  Concept album involving Spawn (the comic) and featuring some of IE's most neckbreaking tracks ("Violate", "Vengeance is Mine") as well as "A Question of Heaven", arguably one of the most genuine metal ballads in existence.

Current playlist:
Fear My Thoughts - Vulcanus
Iced Earth - The Dark Saga
Miseration - Your Demons Their Angels
Fear My Thoughts - Hell Sweet Hell
Blinded Colony - Bedtime Prayers
Eventide - Diaries From the Gallows
Ground Zero demo (featuring Claudio of Disarmonia Mundi)

Fresh Cut:  Blinded Colony - Bedtime Prayers

Love this album, not very original, but well-executed melo-death...  The songwriting is amazing...  The well-defined choruses have me singing along and the thrashy riffs have me headbanging as well...

Old Wound:  Meshuggah - Chaosphere

Don't know exactly why but this album seems to have been playing in my stereo recently almost non-stop...  The entire album is awesome and probably the best in the Meshuggah discography...  "New Millenium Cyanide Christ" is the best song they've ever written in my opinion...  Excellent album that still appeals to me almost a decade after it's release...

Current playlist:
Blinded Colony - Bedtime Prayers
Meshuggah - Chaosphere
Meshuggah - Catch 33
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
Within Y - Portraying Dead Dreams
***will change drastically as soon as I'm expecting a ton of cd's very soon***

We're the tyrants that guard the land
Proud upon our gilded thrones
The kings at hold... on their thrones
Immortal and invincible... the might lives on
