By no means is this a "top 10" of all time type of thing but just kind of a reflection on albums that you really, really enjoy.  I didn't put any 2005'ers in since they need to withstand the test of time first...

Soilwork - The Chainheart Machine, A Predators Portrait
Nevermore - Dead Heart in a Dead World
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
The Haunted - The Haunted
Katatonia - Viva Emptiness
In Flames - Whoracle, Reroute to Remain
Hypocrisy - Abducted
Anathema - Judgement
Dark Tranquillity - Haven
Lilitu - The Delores Lesion

Savatage - Streets: A Rock Opera
My Dying Bride - The Angel And The Dark River
Saturnus - Paradise Belongs To You
Anathema - Judgement
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Manowar - Into Glory Ride
Fleurety - Min Tid Skal Komme
Iced Earth - Burnt Offering
Lake Of Tears - Forever Autumn
Draconian - Arcane Rain Fell

but this is a very difficult question. i think in a few minutes there will be 10 more albums in my head to replace these ones

Tough choice, I'll probably have to modify this as I go as I had a terrible memory.

In Flames - Discography starting with Jester Race ( sorry Stanne! )
Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder/Follow the Reaper
Soilwork - A Predators Portrait
Hypocrisy - The Arrival
Megadeth - Rust In Peace

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head at the moment... I'll add some more later, as I know I have other albums that I could listen to forever... I just don't have access to them at the moment.

Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake, As The Palaces Burn
In Flames - Reroute to Remain, (I know I'm gonna get shit for this) STYE, Come Clarity
Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
Lord Belial - The Seal of Belial (best black metal album this year)
Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama (best all-around album in my opinion)
Fear Factory - Archetype
Hell Within - Asylum of the Human Predator

Nice picks...I just picked up the double-disc 25 RR anniversary edition of KsE's Alive or Just Breathing, forgot how good it was

Yeah, that tends to be one of those albums that I don't listen to very often, but as soon as I put it in, I let it go the whole way through, and love every second...the production on that disc is huge

Damn, this is a tough one . .

To start it off  .  .

Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse, Deliverance, Ghost Reveries

Dark Tranquility - Haven, Damage Done, Character

Soilwork - A predators portrait, stabbing the drama

Hypocrisy - The final chapter, Virus

Dimmu Borgir - last 2 albums

Nile - entire discography

In Flames dropped off my necessary list after the last 2 releases . . very disappointed . .havn't heard come clairity

If I had to choose 1 album - Dark Tranquility - Character    A masterwork - the metal band to beat, also the best live show that I saw all year . .
